More than 1,300 Goldsmiths, University of London students, supported by over 3,000 friends and family, graduated on 18-19 July across five ceremonies at the QEII Centre in Westminster.

The summer 2019 graduating class were joined by three new Honorary Fellows – activist and actor Nabil Shaban, Ivor Novello Award-winning composer and Goldsmiths alumna Errollyn Wallen MBE, and writer and campaigner Anthony Barnett.

Professor Elisabeth Hill, Acting Warden, said: “Graduation is a special time at Goldsmiths where our community joins together to celebrate the achievements of our students. It is also a moment for us to recognise the accomplishments of distinguished individuals and we are delighted to welcome Errollyn, Nabil and Anthony as Honorary Fellows.”

Four members of Goldsmiths staff also took to the stage to accept awards voted for by Goldsmiths Students’ Union. The Goldsmiths Student-Led Teaching Awards aim to celebrate outstanding teaching and the staff members who make Goldsmiths what it is. Find out more about the awards on the Goldsmiths SU website.

From the Department of English and Creative Writing, Professor Charlotte Scott was awarded for outstanding contribution to helping foster communities, and Dr Rick Crownshaw for outstanding use of research in teaching.

Dr Constantinos Repapis accepted an award on behalf of Lecturer in Economics Dr Ariel Wirkierman (Institute of Management Studies) for outstanding use of technology in teaching.

Dr Akanksha Mehta (Media, Communications and Cultural Studies) received an award for inspiring and challenging teaching; Sheila Faucher from Goldsmiths Library for non-academic or support staff member who has gone above and beyond; and Phoebe Patey-Ferguson (Theatre and Performance) for compelling or diverse curriculum content.

This year’s ceremonies have been moved from campus, due to scheduled works in the historic Great Hall, to the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) centre in Westminster.
