A remarkable change of scene

My time at Goldsmiths has been truly incredible.

Growing up in a small village and going to school in a quiet town, the world seemed to get a whole lot bigger during my time at university in London, from the endless opportunities to the remarkable variety of culture and people you meet. 

Goldsmiths replicated this within its own campus community, I haven't just gained a degree, but friends for life.

A supportive environment for learning and growth

As for MA Scriptwriting at Goldsmiths, I couldn't recommend it more if I tried. The instant feeling of familiarity and assurance is a credit to the culture programme leader and tutors Naz and Isaac have worked effortlessly to maintain.

From day one, I knew that this was an environment that I could improve and succeed in. As a newcomer to scriptwriting, I had no doubt that I had the support of not only my tutors, but my supremely talented classmates too.

The course allowed me to develop as a writer without feeling any sort of pressure that I needed to be further ahead in my journey than I was.

The supportive, yet constructive class feedback sessions gave me the confidence in my ability to be ambitious and take risks in my writing, which took me to the next level in my development.

Learning beyond the classroom and sense of belonging

Outside of class, the course offers so much more - screenings, nights at the pub, and so many other extracurricular activities make the cohort feel truly like a mini family and by the end of the year you will have a network of support that will make you feel like you can achieve anything.

I think that's what makes MA Scriptwriting at Goldsmiths so special. University in general, but specifically in London, can feel so big and impersonal, like you are just another student among the thousands in an endless academic crowd, but on this course all of that disappears.

Naz and Isaac have created a classroom where you feel recognised, and welcome, no matter who you are or where you're from.

Your unique voice feels heard and encouraged; it feels as though you are genuinely valued as an individual. For me that has been the core of my experience, beyond the writing, I have been part of a wonderfully unique family.

Advice for future students

I would say that it is important to try as much as you can, get involved in anything and everything. Discover what gives you fulfilment and enjoy finding new passions.

Discovering new places and local gems

Although initially it might feel like a lot, New Cross and South East London in general is full of amazing places, people and food specifically.

My Favourite thing about it is that there’s something for everyone, and there is a beauty in discovering new experiences - whether you like them or not.

My favourite spot is finding a good patch of grass in Greenwich Park and people watching as the sun sets over the city, you will not regret it!
