"The staff were very supportive - without them it's unlikely I would be in my current position."
Main details
I am currently enrolled on a doctorate in clinical psychology at the Salomons Centre for Applied Psychology. I split my time between studying and undertaking placements within mental health teams. I mainly conduct individual therapy, co-facilitate psychological groups, carry out a range of assessments and support a process of making sense of client's difficulties (which is sometimes referred to as formulation).
Overall, Goldsmiths was a great place to study with an exciting social element. The diverse range of people I met made it a very interesting experience.
The university staff were also very supportive of my aspirations and without them it is unlikely I would be in my current position.
During my time at Goldsmiths I became a Departmental Student Coordinator [DSC]. This role was particularly important in facilitating the development of good organisation and public speaking skills. Being a DSC allowed me the opportunity to cultivate a flexible approach to managing different demands. This has been a key factor in my ability to manage the various aspects of the doctorate (clinical, academic and research).
Being an advocate for students as a DSC was good fortune in that it helped me to develop comfort in doing so when working with vulnerable people who may also benefit from an advocate of their needs.
