Doctoral Research Bursaries
Doctoral Research Bursaries may be available. The bursaries are held for one year and are currently worth £5,000 each year – essentially, the bursaries act as tuition fee waivers.
The decision to whom to award a bursary is made by the Programme Director and team.
See the webpage for MPhil/PhD Art for full details on how to apply.
Graduate Trainee Tutorships
The School of Art may offer a number of one-year teaching assistantships for MPhil/PhD researchers. The full terms and conditions are available in the School of Art Office and any appointments will be made in the summer term for the next academic year. Graduate Trainee Tutorships (GTTs) are subject to School funding and thus we are unable to guarantee the number for the next year at the outset of the current academic year.
GTTs are offered on the basis of interviews with relevant Programme Directors. Successful applicants may be asked to teach and provide support on a number of different programmes in Art.

Asymmetry Scholarship
Beginning in the academic year of Autumn 2024, we are offering a bespoke, fully funded Scholarship in the innovative Advanced Practices PhD programme at Goldsmiths. The four-year placement is a unique academic opportunity within the field of curatorial practices and cross-cultural research, awarded to one successful candidate who identifies to any extent with Chinese and Sinophone cultures and identities, based in the regions or internationally.
The Scholarship fully covers four years of the PhD programme, including tuition fees, monthly rent and living costs. The ideal candidate will be an academically determined art professional, an inventive thinker with a background in curatorial studies and/or contemporary art and relevant work experience.
While we are open to all applications, we strongly welcome applicants with work experience and innovative project portfolios or academic publications.
