Late submissions
Information on late submissions and penalties.
Primary page content
For 2025/26 the Student Administration team has worked with the Students’ Union to change the way in which we will apply penalties for summative assessments that are submitted after the published deadline.
Under the new Assessment Policy and Procedures (PDF), the penalty applied is now determined by how late the work is submitted.
You should always aim to submit all assessments on time and, where possible, well ahead of the published deadline to avoid any last-minute issues.
The new penalty scheme is designed to be fairer to students who submit shortly after the deadline, whilst still encouraging timely submission.
We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances arise, and there are procedures in place to support you if you experience extenuating circumstances or have reasonable adjustments (RASA) in place.
Summary of updated late submission penalty scheme
The application of a late submission penalty will not reduce your grade for this assessment below the pass mark.

Help and queries
Extended deadlines due to extenuating circumstances or RASA
If you have been granted an extension to the published deadline through an approved extenuating circumstance or because you have reasonable adjustments (RASA), then late submission penalties will only become applicable if you submit your work after your extended deadline.
How you will know a penalty has been added
When your work has been marked, your feedback and original mark will be displayed in learn.gold (VLE). If you have submitted your work late, the penalty for late submission will be applied to your mark in MyGoldsmiths, which you will see when your ratified marks are released.
How to view submission deadlines
You can find your submission deadlines in learn.gold module pages.
How to ask for help
If you have any queries about your assessments and deadlines, you can speak to your personal tutor or module convenor. You can also seek further advice by submitting an enquiry to the Student Hub.
