Accommodation access

Primary page content

This page is for residents of Loring Hall

When you live in student accommodation, there will be times when staff or contractors may need to enter to carry out repairs, inspections or for health and safety reasons. We will always aim to respect your privacy and give you as much notice as possible.

When we may need to enter

We may need to enter your room if you have reported a repair, for planned maintenance, or for regular health and safety checks and inspections. We may also enter if we suspect a serious breach of your accommodation agreement, to respond to an emergency, or if we have concerns for your welfare.

If one of your flatmates has made a maintenance request, or if there is a vacant room in your flat that requires access, our team may need to enter shared areas in your flat to reach the room. In these cases, we will not normally send a notification in advance.

In an emergency, staff and contractors may need enter your room or flat without prior notice to ensure your safety and that of others.

How we will let you know

For most planned maintenance or regular inspections, we will give seven days’ written notice where possible. For urgent maintenance, we will give at least 48 hours’ notice unless it is an emergency. If we need to enter for other reasons (and it is not an emergency), we will also give at least 48 hours’ notice, letting you know the date, time and reason for entry.

If you have reported a repair, you will receive an email to notify you once the job has been assigned to a member of staff as they may need to enter even if you are not in your room.

Please keep an eye on your emails, as we will email you to notify you in advance when access is required.

Our door knock policy

We will always give you a reasonable opportunity to answer before entering. Staff and contractors will knock three times before announcing they are entering your bedroom. They will wear visible ID at all times and will keep a written record of the date, time and reason for entering if you are not present.

Please remember to keep your keys with you at all times as after each visit as all doors will be left locked.

If you have any questions about access to your room or flat, or If you need adjustments to how we notify or enter your room due to a disability or health condition, please contact Accommodation Services to let us know so we can support you.

Loring Hall is managed by Goldsmiths and signed up to The Student Accommodation Code developed by Universities UK and GuildHE. If you live in student accommodation signed up to the ANUK / National Code, please check with the team on site for more information on how access is managed in your building.
