Appliances in your flat and general instructions

Please read the following instructions to make safe use of the cooking equipment in your kitchens.   

We recommend you also take time to familiarise yourself with our advice on fire safety and electrical safety, including how to use appliances and other electrical equipment which can be found in your Hall Guide, and your Accommodation Agreement.

  • Turn on the power switch on the wall   
  • Load oven with food in oven-safe containers  
  • Select function and temperature    
  • Set timer  
  • Turn it off after use 
  • Do not leave unattended

  • Select the hob and temperature setting using the dials   
  • Load pot/pan onto hob point   
  • Turn off the hob after use  
  • Do not leave unattended

  • Make sure to use microwave-safe containers only  
  • Do not use metal or foil 
  • Turn on the power switch on the wall 
  • Load microwave with foodstuff and close door 
  • Select function 
  • Set timer
  • Do not leave unattended

  • Do not overload the fridge freezers   
  • Make sure there are no items obstructing the doors  
  • Check doors are kept closed

  • Fill the kettle up with water – not above the maximum level  
  • Turn it on at the base  
  • Caution, the kettle and content will be hot

  • Insert bread into the toasting racks  
  • Do not insert anything other than bread into the toaster  
  • Set timer  
  • Do not poke the inside of the toaster or use metal
  • Do not leave unattended
