Jo is the programme co-leader for the BA Design and teaches across the programme, both on studio practice and contextual courses.
His research is focused on the role design can play in supporting the transformation of our social, cultural and political institutions around the world. This is applied through his design practice, where he leads a design and change team at the Innovation Unit - a not for profit consultancy who work globally to support the radical transformation of public services. Here, Jo has worked globally to support projects that apply design processes to significant social and political challenges; from using technology to transform education in New York City, US, to working across Brazil to accelerate community-led design of new schools, to leading the UK’s most radical transformations of mental health services with Lambeth Council.
Jo lectures internationally on design and social change and has been an adviser for both national and international governments. In 2012 he was a select-committee member of a parliamentary enquiry into the role of design in developing new public services.
