SPSS

SPSS is a software package published by IBM and used for statistical analysis.

SPSS Statistics 30 will be available in our IT labs and open access computer area over the summer

The process for installing this application is straightforward, however it contains many steps. Please ensure you follow the instructions below carefully.

Before attempting to install SPSS, ensure you have acquired an SPSS licence code from the IT Software self-service web page.

Once you have a licence code and have downloaded the necessary SPSS installer and patches, you can follow the steps below to install the software.

Please ensure you are connected to the internet throughout the installation and software licensing process.

To obtain the current SPSS licence code please type your username in the field below.

If you are using SPSS Statistics 27, please uninstall the application and install SPSS Statistics 30 using the information below. 

Installers

To obtain the SPSS installer(s), click the link below that is appropriate to your Operating System. You must also download the patch fix for the version you download if available to ensure proper functionality of the software.

You will be prompted to log in with your credentials. Download the appropriate installer and fix but do not run the installer until you have a license code. You will be prompted for your username and password.

Version 30

Once you have obtained the SPSS installer, patches and licence code, you are ready to install the software. This process can take up to 30 minutes.

Installation guide (Windows)

  1. Go to the SPSS installer you have downloaded and saved on your machine
  2. Right-click on the installer and select Run as Administrator, then click on Next at the warming message about the installation overwrite existing installation of version 28.x or later . If you receive the message “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? Click Yes
  3. Select “I accept the terms in the license agreement” and click Next.
  4. Click Next at the destination folder prompt. The default location should be C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS Statistics\
  5. Click Install to being installation of the application
  6. Ensure the “start IBM SPSS Statistics now” tick box is ticked and then click Finish.
  7. Click Launch License Wizard to being the activate of the application
  8. Select Authorized user license option (DO NOT select Concurrent user license) and click Next
  9. Copy and paste the license you received by email and click add
  10. Click Next twice and then Finish

You will now need to restart your machine and then install the patch(es) you downloaded. For the patches simply follow the installation wizard by clicking on Next, Ok or Finish when appropriate and restarting your machine after each installation.

Installation guide (Mac) 

  1. In the Finder go to the location where you have saved the installer .dmg file (probably Downloads) and double-click on the SPSS.dmg file
  2. Click continue at the warming message about the installation overwrite existing installation of version 28.x or later
  3. Click continue at the important information stage
  4. Click continue to accept the terms of the license and then click agree
  5. Click Install to begin the installation. This will take a few minutes depending on the specification of your computer
  6. You may be prompted for your Macbook password to at this stage for the installation to take place. Please enter your password and then click install software 
  7. Click close once the application has installed
  8. Open IBM SPSS Statistics by double clicking on the application 
  9. Click Launch License Wizard to being the activate of the application 
  10. Select Authorized user license option (DO NOT select Concurrent user license) and click  Next 
  11. Copy and paste the license you received by email and click add 
  12. Click Next twice and then Finish

Please note: 

  • Your SPSS licence code generally lasts for 12 months from the start of July. IBM provides an additional one month grace period, and so all SPSS licence codes should remain valid until the end of July
  • If you receive a Windows Security Alert about Java(TM) Platform SE Binary - Publisher: IBM, click on Unblock and it should not appear again. This is a helper program for SPSS
  • Unless you have a good reason not to, please select Use Unicode encoding, if prompted

IBM SPSS Amos is a powerful structural equation modeling (SEM) software helping support your research and theories by extending standard multivariate analysis methods, including regression, factor analysis, correlation and analysis of variance.

Installers

To obtain the SPSS Amos installer, click the link below that is appropriate to your Operating System. You will be prompted to log in with your credentials. Download the appropriate installer but do not run it until you have a license code. You will be prompted for your username and password.

Version 30: Windows Installer

Once you have obtained the SPSS Amos installer and licence code, you are ready to install the software. This process can take up to 30 minutes.

Installation guide

  1. Run the downloaded installer and if prompted by the operating system to allow the app to make a change, click yes
  2. Click next and accept the License Agreement
  3. Launch “IBM SPSS Amos 30 License Authorization Wizard” from the start menu and if prompted by the operating system to allow the app to make a change, click yes
  4. Click next
  5. Select authorized user license (I purchased a single copy of the product) and then click next
  6. Copy and paste the license you received by email, then click Add, Next, Next and Finish
