Matlab is a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment and proprietary programming language.

Goldsmiths has a campus-wide license for Matlab, Simulink, and companion toolboxes. The license covers on-campus and home software use for all students and staff.

Training and Support

IT and Digital Services does not provide training on Matlab.

Before starting the installation process, please request a license as per instructions at the top of this page.

1. In your browser go to mathworks.com
2. Click on Log In and then on Create Account
3. Enter the following details :

  • Email Address: (your Goldsmiths email address) e.g. jblog001@gold.ac.uk
  • Country/Region: United Kingdom
  • How will you use MathWorks software: Student use
  • Are you at least 13 years or older: Yes

4. Click Create
5. You will receive a verification email to your Goldsmiths email account. In your Goldsmiths email find the email sent from service@mathworks.com and click the Verify your email button.
6. Now you will be prompted to finish creating your profile. Fill in your details:

  • User ID (Optional): Your Goldsmiths username (e.g. jblog001)
  • Password: (create your own password)
  • Under Country/Region: United Kingdom
  • School/University: Goldsmiths, University of London

7. Scroll down the page and enter the License Number you received via email and click Create.
8. Click the Download icon
9. Click on the most current version of Matlab
10. Select the Windows (64-bit) button
11. Double click the downloaded file, the application will Self-Extract and launch the installer
12. In the installer select Log in with a MathWorks Account and click Next
13. Accept the License Agreement by selecting Yes and then click Next
14. Enter the Email address and Password you created earlier and click Next
15. Make sure Select a license is selected, then click Next and then Next again
16. If you know exactly which packages you need from MATLAB you can individually select them otherwise click Next and then Next again
17. Click Install, let the installer run, then click Next
18. Select Activate MATLAB and click Next and Next again until you can click on Confirm and then Finish.

10. Select the Mac OSX button
11. Double click the downloaded file, the installer will extract, then click on InstallforMacOSX then click on Open
12. Enter your Mac admin password and click OK
13. In the installer select Log in with a MathWorks Account and click Next
14. Accept the License Agreement by selecting Yes and then click Next
15. Enter the Email address and Password you created earlier and click Next
16. Make sure Select a license is selected, then click Next and then Next again
17. If you know exactly which packages you need from MATLAB you can individually select them otherwise click Next and then Next again
18. Click Install, let the installer run, then click Next
19. Select Activate MATLAB and click Next and Next again until you can click on Confirm and then Finish.
