Visa Application Process
Standard Visitor Visa
- Check if you need to apply for a visitor visa in advance: If you are a national of one of the countries listed here you will be required to apply for a visitor visa in advance of travelling to the UK
- If you do not need to apply for a visitor visa in advance, you may still need to apply for Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) prior to travelling to the UK: The UK government has published a list of countries that are now required to apply for ETA before travelling to the UK. You can download the UK ETA app here
- If you are a ‘visa national’ and need to apply for a Visitor visa in advance of travelling you will need to request a visitor visa letter
- Once you have received your visitor visa letter you will be able to make your application online. Full details of the documents required can be found here
- Receive your decision: Once you have applied online, proved your identity and provided your documents, you’ll usually get a decision on your visa within 3 weeks
Student Visa (eVisa)
- Receive your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS): You will be able to request your CAS letter once you have received an unconditional offer from Goldsmiths
- Complete the online application: Once you have received your CAS letter you will be able to make your Student visa application on the UK Visas & Immigration website
- Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): This grants access to the UK’s healthcare system
- Attend a biometric appointment: Submit fingerprints and a photograph at your local visa application centre
- Receive your visa decision: Processing times can vary, but priority services may be available
- Access your eVisa online: You will not receive a physical visa or BRP card, as you will now be able to view your visa status through the UKVI online system
