Sara is a mathematician, loves teaching and has wide experience in engaging the public with mathematics, science and engineering. Sara works in public engagement through her business Maths Busking, alongside her teaching at Goldsmiths.
Sara delivers tutorials and workshops for Foundation of Problem Solving, Foundation Mathematics for Computing, and Mathematical Modelling (Numerical + Symbolic Maths). Her work on rich tasks in the classroom was published in Mathematics Teaching 216 (November 2009).
She recently spoke to an adult audience at the IET for the Ada Lovelace Day, challenged 'A' Level students for Maths in Action, and entertained school crowds at the NEC for the Big Bang Fair. Glastonbury and Air Tattoo festivals saw her leading engineers to perform street theatre. At the London Olympics she worked with the Francis Crick Institute to train science entertainers.
Previously funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority, Sara produced rich-tasks for classroom use, creating deep maths activities accessible to all learners. At the Royal Institution of Great Britain she created and delivered masterclasses to keen young mathematicians, and managed a UK-wide network of volunteers.
